The actions of the HEART are the FOUNDATION (of belief)
“Know O beloved reader that it is most important to spend one’s time and energy in treating the heart, and hastening to correct and purify it from sickness and all sins. This is due to the heart occupying a great and lofty position in Islaam, for it is the place to which the Lord looks and the STOREHOUSE FOR TAWEED, FAITH, and SINCERITY. Actions are distinguished, one from the other, with respect to their excellence in the Sight of Allaah in accordance with the condition of the heart, not by their number or form, but rather due to the strength of the caller, his or her truthfulness, his or her sincerity and the extent to which he or she prefers Allaah over himself or herself …"

From the hadeeth:
An-Nu`man bin Bashir (may Allaah be pleased with them) reported: the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said,
“What is lawful is clear and what is unlawful is clear, but between them are certain DOUBTFUL things which many people do not know. So he who guards against doubtful things keeps his religion and his honour blameless. But he who falls into doubtful things falls into that which is unlawful, just as a shepherd who grazes his cattle in the vicinity of a pasture declared prohibited (by the king); he is likely to stray into the pasture. Mind you, every king has a protected pasture and Allaah’s involved limits is that which He has declared unlawful. Verily, there is a piece of flesh in the body, if it is healthy, the whole body is healthy, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Verily, it is the heart.”
