What is the Ruling on the Person who Denies the Sunnah with the Claim that the Quran is enough?
Q. You spoke about the obligation of adhering to the Quran and Sunnah. There is a group referred to as the Quranis. What is our stance in relation to them?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
A. As has preceded, they are not Quranis (i.e., followers of the Quran). Rather, they are persistent liars, enemies to the Quran because the Quran orders to (follow) the Sunnah and to obey the Messenger ﷺ. Whoever denies the Sunnah, denies the Quran. And whoever disobeys the Messenger, disobeys (what is in) the Quran.
Hence, they are not followers of the Quran. They are completely opposite to the Quran, heretics and misguided. They are disbelievers by consensus of the People of Knowledge.
Whoever denies the Sunnah and does not implement it and claims that he only follows the Quran is a liar; he is not following the Quran. He is astray and is misleading others, a disbeliever by consensus of the people of knowledge. I wrote a treatise about this which has been printed called The Obligation of Following the Sunnah.

س : تكلمتَ عن وجوب الأخذ بالكتاب والسنة، ووجد جماعةٌ يُقال لهم: القرآنيون، فما موقفنا منهم؟
ج : مثلما تقدَّم، ليسوا قرآنيين، ولكنَّهم كذَّابون، أعداء للقرآن؛ لأنَّ القرآن أمر بالسنة، وأمر بطاعة الرسول ﷺ، ومَن أنكر السنة فقد أنكر القرآن، ومَنْ×ن عصى الرسول فقد عصى القرآن، فليسوا قرآنيين، ولكنَّهم ضد القرآن، وملاحدة، وضالُّون، بل كفَّار بإجماع أهل العلم
مَن أنكر السنة ولم يعمل بها وزعم أنَّه لا يعمل إلا بالقرآن؛ فهو كاذبٌ، لم يعمل بالقرآن، وضالٌّ مُضِلٌّ، كافرٌ بإجماع أهل العلم، وقد كتبتُ في هذا رسالةً مطبوعةً سميتُها: وجوب العمل بالسنة
