Surah Al-Baqarah
Verse 60
2:60 Al-Baqara
And (remember) when Musa (Moses) asked for water for his people, We said: "Strike the stone with your stick." Then gushed forth therefrom twelve springs. Each (group of) people knew its own place for water. "Eat and drink of that which Allah has provided and do not act corruptly, making mischief on the earth."
Tafseer Surah Baqarah Verse 60 |
☘️Prophet Musa ‘alayhi salaam like any other prophet of Allah was extremely kind and compassionate towards his people and his nation. However he did not respond with the same courtesy. They kept disobeying the instructions of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and demanded one thing after another. After wandering in the Sinai desert as a punishment, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala was still Merciful towards them. He sheltered them with the clouds and provided food from the heavens. Yet, they were not grateful. In ayaat 60-62, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala narrates to us some more of His favors on the Children of Israel.
☘️Upon his people’s request Prophet Musa supplicated to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala for water. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala instructed him to strike his staff on a stone and water will be made available. Prophet Musa followed the instructions and twelve springs burst out. There was a designated spring for each of his tribe.
☘️The gushing forth of twelve springs equal to the number of tribes shows the organization in Allah’s work. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala teaches us that when we work in crowds we must work as a team. The roles and responsibilities of each member must be pre-defined so that later there are no confusions and arguments. Had there been only one spring and twelve tribes to serve, can you imagine the chaos that would have emerged?
☘️Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala then says, “Eat and drink from the provision of Allah…,” we should know how to fulfill our needs from the permissible and pure provision that Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala has provided for us. We should not beg, steal or be jealous of what others have. Rather, we should ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to bless us from His unlimited Bounty.
☘️We also learn that Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala puts no restrictions on us other than that the food should be halal (lawful) and tayab (pure). He is more concerned about our health than us. We feed our bodies junk while Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala wants us to eat healthy and nutritious. Moreover, we learn that there is no piety in not using the blessings of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. He wants us to take benefit from them but at the same time not become ungrateful or extravagant. Remember to thank Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala whenever you are blessed with something.
☘️While we are to use the blessings, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala reminds the Children of Israel and us, “…and do not act corruptly, making mischief on the earth.” Many a times when people are blessed with something instead of being humble and grateful they turn arrogant and condescending. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala does not like those who spread mischief on the earth. Make du’a to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to never make you and your loved ones corrupt or mischievous, ameen. In this ayah, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala has taught a life’s principle.
☘️We must learn to discipline our lives and not create fasad in whichever role we might be.
☘️Fasad (mischief) is spread by: Disobedience, ingratitude, impatience, greed, jealousy and arrogance. Look for these traits in yourself, and ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to cleanse you of the diseases of the heart, ameen.
☘️Shukr at the Time of going to Bed
“All praise is for Allah, Who fed us and gave us drink, and Who is sufficient for us and has sheltered us, for how many have none to suffice them or shelter them.
☘️Shukr at the Time of waking up
الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي عَافَانِي فِي جَسَدِي وَرَدَّ عَليَّ رُوْحِي وَأَذِنَ لِي بِذِكْرِهِ
“All praise is for Allah who restored to me my health and returned my soul and has allowed me to remember Him.”
